BENIDORM, CIUDAD INNOVADORA MODELO DE SOSTENIBILIDAD.
En el anterior post os hablamos sobre la capacidad que ha tenido Benidorm para evolucionar continuamente y convertirse en una referencia europea en cuanto al turismo de masas se refiere, sustentando su modelo en la sostenibilidad, siendo el primer Destino Turístico Inteligente Certificado del mundo desde 2018. Pues bien, en el siguiente post os describiremos las medidas que se tomarán por parte de la 'EDUSI', Estrategia de Desarrollo Urbano Sostenible e Integrado; plan instituido para crear un Benidorm más verde, mejorar la accesibilidad, optimizar sus recursos y conseguir una mayor visibilidad siendo una ciudad aún más innovadora.
Benidorm, desde el comiezo de su 'boom' turístico, allá por 1956, se ha fundamentado en el famoso modelo de ciudad vertical basado en el concepto de ciudad jardín, movimiento urbanístico creado para establecer zonas urbanas diseñadas para una vida saludable y de trabajo; con un tamaño que haga posible una vida social a plenitud, sin ser muy grandes, cuyo crecimiento será controlado y estarán rodeadas por un cinturón vegetal y comunidades rurales.
Este modelo posibilita la creación de una verdadera ciudad del ocio desde los años 60, reconocida actualmente por su funcionalidad y su eficiencia económica, territorial, y medioambiental. En este Benidorm vertical, la altura permite alcanzar la masa poblacional necesaria para lograr una gestión más racional del medio ambiente como el caso del agua, un menor uso del transporte privado o una mayor calidad del espacio urbano. En el caso del agua por ejemplo, aún siendo una ciudad con un denso modelo hotelero, Benidorm ha conseguido multiplicar su eficiencia reduciendo su consumo en más de un 23% en el último cuarto de siglo.
La estrategia del plan para el desarrollo urbano sostenible e integrado (EDUSI) se llevará a cabo mediante los siguientes proyectos:
• Recuperar y dinamizar un área urbana extensa y clave para la ciudad, que engloba parte del "Ensanche del Casco Antiguo", la Avenida Jaume I, la Avenida de Beniardá y la "Ciudad Jardín".
• Aprovechar la potencialidad inherente en las zonas naturales existentes al norte del casco urbano y los corredores verdes materializados por los barrancos que, perpendiculares a la costa, se mezclan con el tejido urbano, con el objeto de mejorar la estructura territorial de Benidorm en su conjunto.
• Dotar tecnológicamente a Benidorm para mejorar los automatismos inteligentes para el manejo de servicios e infraestructuras de ciudad, la participación ciudadana en la toma de decisiones, la transparencia, el conocimiento, la visibilidad y favorecer el aumento de la calidad de vida.
Además, propone modelos de innovación urbana que aúnan la ecología social, medioambiental y mental para conseguir los siguientes objetivos, centrados también en la población que vive y trabaja en Benidorm:
Más y mejor conectividad interurbana. Mejorando el parque urbano de viviendas haciendo sus precios más asequibles. Y a su vez, consiguiendo una movilidad más segura, incluyendo sobre todo la peatonal y la ciclista, adecuando los senderos ciclo-peatonales en el Paraje de El Moralet.
Modernización inteligente de los servicios públicos. Con el la plataforma 'Smart City' de la mano, la cual administrará apartados como la incidencia en alumbrado, la movilidad, la gestión del tráfico y de las infraestructuras. Dicha plataforma desarrollará una red que permita la sensorización de la ciudad.
Aumento de la calidad del entorno y del medio ambiente, reduciendo el consumo de recursos materiales y fomentando la sostenibilidad.
Más oportunidades de interacción social y ocio saludable, mejorando el acceso a la gestión municipal y toma de decisiones y reduciendo los ámbitos que llevan a la exclusión social y generando igualdad de oportunidades, con mejoras laborales.
Recuperación y mejora de espacios públicos: Instalación de placas fotovoltaicas para autoconsumo de energía eléctrica en la Ciudad Deportiva Guillermo Amor, reconversión de la Plaza de Toros como espacio cultural, construyendo un Centro de Participación Ciudadana y un Centro Multicultural equipado con Biblioteca y Sala de Estudios anexo a dicho Complejo Cultural de la Plaza de Toros. creación de un Centro de Interpretación y un Albergue Juvenil en el Parque de la Séquia Mare.
Con esta estrategia se pretenden lograr los Indicadores de Resultado vinculados con los Objetivos Temáticos y los objetivos de la propia estrategia, quedando todos ellos alineados con la Estrategia Europa 2020 de la Unión Europea.

In the previous post we talked to you about Benidorm's ability to continually evolve and become a European reference in terms of mass tourism, supporting its model in sustainability, being the first Certified Smart Tourist Destination in the world since 2018. Well, in the next post we will describe the measures that will be taken by the 'ISUD', Sustainable and Integrated Urban Development Strategy; plan instituted to create a greener Benidorm, improve accessibility, optimize its resources and achieve greater visibility by being an even more innovative city.
Benidorm, since the beginning of its tourist boom, back in 1956, has been based on the famous vertical city model based on the garden city concept, an urban movement created to establish urban areas designed for a healthy life and work; with a size that makes possible a full social life, without being too large, whose growth will be controlled and will be surrounded by a plant belt and rural communities.
This model enables the creation of a true city of leisure since the 60s, currently recognized for its functionality and its economic, territorial, and environmental efficiency. In this vertical Benidorm, the height allows reaching the population mass necessary to achieve a more rational management of the environment such as water, less use of private transport or a higher quality of urban space. In the case of water for example, even being a city with a dense hotel model, Benidorm has managed to multiply its efficiency by reducing its consumption by more than 23% in the last quarter of a century.
The strategy of the plan for sustainable and integrated urban development (ISUD) will be carried out through the following projects:
• Recover and revitalize an extensive and key urban area for the city, which includes part of the Expansion of the Old Town, Jaume I Avenue, Beniardá Avenué and the "Garden City".
• Take advantage of the potential inherent in the natural areas to the north of the urban area and the green corridors materialized by the ravines that, perpendicular to the coast, blend with the urban fabric, in order to improve the territorial structure of Benidorm as a whole .
• Provide technology to Benidorm to improve intelligent automation for the management of city services and infrastructures, citizen participation in decision-making, transparency, knowledge, visibility and favoring an increase in the quality of life.
In addition, it proposes urban innovation models that combine social, environmental and mental ecology to achieve the following objectives, also focused on the population that lives and works in Benidorm:
More and better long distance connectivity. Improving the urban housing stock by making their prices more affordable. And in turn, achieving safer mobility, including especially pedestrian and cyclist, adapting the cycle-pedestrian paths in the Moralet area.
Smart modernization of public services. With the 'Smart City' platform in hand, which will manage sections such as the incidence of lighting, mobility, traffic management and infrastructure. This platform will develop a network that allows sensorization of the city.
Increase in the quality of the environment, reducing the consumption of material resources and promoting sustainability.
More opportunities for social interaction and healthy leisure, improving access to municipal management and decision-making and reducing the areas that lead to social exclusion and generating equal opportunities, with job improvements.
Recovery and improvement of public spaces: Installation of photovoltaic panels for self-consumption of electricity in the Guillermo Amor Sports City, reconversion of the 'Bullring' as a cultural space, building a Citizen Participation Center and a Multicultural Center equipped with a Library and Study Room annex to said Cultural Complex of the 'Bullring'. creation of an Interpretation Center and a Youth Hostel in the 'Séquia Mare Park'.
The aim of this strategy is to achieve the Result Indicators linked to the Thematic Objectives and the objectives of the strategy itself, all of them being aligned with the Europe 2020 Strategy of the European Union.
